TWO NEW ADULT BIBLE STUDIES TO START THIS MONTH!

SUNDAYS AT 12:00 NOON

Starting on September 15, John Whitfield will be teaching a new adult class on…wait for it…LEVITICUS! You might be about as surprised to read that! For years, many Christians have pretty much ignored the teachings of Leviticus, with all its rules about what animals are to be considered “clean” and can be eaten and which are “unclean” and must be avoided, issues about skin diseases, and mold on the walls of one’s house, the color and type of mold, etc, etc, etc. There is a lot of instruction about what kind of sacrifice to offer God for one’s sin, but Jews have not practiced most of the law concerning sacrifice since the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD.  To modern Christians the law in Leviticus seems so archaic and even obsolete, especially in light of the revelation of Christ. However, as one delves into the history, structure of the book, one makes a fascinating discovery. You are invited to join us in our exploration of Leviticus beginning Sunday, September 15 at 12:00 Noon in Chapel Parlor.

MONDAY AFTERNOONS AT 3:00 pm

Our Monday afternoon study group will resume tomorrow afternoon, Monday, September 9. This fall, the group will be using a new study on the life of the Prophet Elijah.  In this six week study grounded in First and Second Kings, author Melissa Spoelstra leads us in examining the life of the prophet Elijah, an ordinary man who did extraordinary things for God in the midst of the highs and lows of life.  Whether you’re currently in a mountaintop season, a valley season, or somewhere in between, Elijah’s life will inspire you as we discover that he doubted and struggled just as we do and yet chose to trust in God. Together, we will grow in faith and develop spiritual stamina that will enable us not only to survive but thrive in every season. The class meets on Monday afternoons at 3:00 in chapel parlor. Copies of the workbook for the class are available from Rev. Mark Phillips at $10.00 per copy.
